Subtitle editor
An online subtitle editor that fixes the boring parts
Auto captions get you most of the way. The editor is where you fix names, split long lines, close timing gaps, and make the captions readable before export.
Drop a video to caption
MP4, MOV, WebM, or MKV. Drop a clip — get captions you can style and export.
Answer first
What can you edit?
The editor is built around the two things that actually cost time: wording and timing. Click a caption to fix the text, drag the timeline to adjust when it appears, merge split sentences, and close gaps that make captions flash on screen. You can also change line breaks and check that a line is not too long for the time it is visible.
- Edit caption text in place.
- Merge, split and delete cues.
- Drag start and end times.
- Close gaps between lines.
- Check line length and reading speed.
- Apply styles after the text is clean.
A sensible review pass
- Play the clip once and fix names, brands and technical terms.
- Check sentence breaks: a caption should not split a phrase awkwardly.
- Look for lines that flash too fast; merge or extend them.
- Only then choose a style and position.
- Export SRT for platforms that accept files, or burn in for social.
Editing beats retyping
A transcript tool gives you a wall of text. A subtitle editor keeps the timing attached to every word so you can fix a line without rebuilding the sequence. That is the difference between “I have a transcript” and “I have captions I can post.”
Editor questions
What is an online subtitle editor?
A browser tool for editing subtitle text and timing without installing desktop software. AutoCaptions generates captions first, then lets you fix wording, merge or split lines, and export the result.
Can I edit timing without retyping?
Yes. Drag caption edges on the timeline, merge or split lines, and close gaps. The text stays editable while you adjust timing.
Does the editor upload my video?
The video stays in your browser. Only the extracted audio is sent for the initial transcription. Editing and export happen locally.
Can I download SRT after editing?
Yes. SRT, VTT and TXT downloads are free on every plan.
